Burglar Alarm, Home Security System, Intrusion System, Alarm System: these are all interchangeable names used to describe a security system designed to keep intruders out of your home. Over the years, there have been so many variations of the name that a person outside the industry could quickly become confused, but for the most part they all mean the same thing. Technological advancements have allowed the security industry to grow and broadened it’s scope to include a larger variety of detectors so that your family and friends are more fully protected. So the question is what are all the detectors that are available for a security system?
Door Protection
Mounted firmly on your door frames, these small detectors will probably be the ones that save you from a burglary. The fact is that 34% of burglars enter through the front door. Its less suspicious to see someone walk through a front door than if they were spotted crawling through a window. This is why basic door sensors on all doors leading to the outside are imperative for the protection of your home.
Motion Detection
Besides door sensors, motion detectors are the next most common detector. Every home security system is equipped with at least door protection and motion detection. This is what is often considered the most basic security. Conventional wisdom suggests that if the front door is locked an intruder may try to crawl through a window. If this occurs the motion detector will sense movement within the home and sound the alarm.
Window Protection
Motion detectors will catch the intruder once they are within the home, but wouldn’t it be best to completely prevent them from entering? That is why window protection creates a more robust security system than the basic door/motion combo. Window sensors are designed to detect a burglar opening a window. This is a good form of protection, but what if a window is locked and a burglar simply breaks and enters?
Glass Break Protection
A window sensor cannot detect glass breaking. That is why we suggest the installation of glass break detectors. These definitely offer you “the most bang for your buck.” One glass break detector will detect the sound of any window being smashed with in 25ft line of site from the detector. This is an important layer of security for the safety of your home and family.
Environmental Protection
Heat Detectors, Smoke Detectors, Water Sensors, Sump-Pump Alarms are just a few of the environmental sensors that can be installed to keep your family safe from extreme temperatures, fire, and water damage.
